Hello to all clients of South Delta Midwifery!
I will be joining Jane at the beginning of January and look forward to meeting and getting to know all of you.
I am a B.C. trained and Registered Midwife with many years of experience providing care to birthing women and their families.
I have practiced on Salt Spring Island and in Victoria. I have recently taken some time out to travel in India and Southeast Asia, where I wrote a number of stories for online publications. I am coming back to the practice of midwifery refreshed and excited about working with you and your family as you prepare to welcome your new baby.
I believe that all women have an instinctive knowledge and ability to labour, give birth and breastfeed their babies. I also believe that all women are unique individuals with unique values, life situations and desires regarding their pregnancies, labours and births. I see my role as helping you to achieve the healthiest and happpiest pregnancy, birth and baby as possible by providing you with information, support and appropriate clinical care tailored to your needs. Your well-being, and the safe arrival and health of your baby are the most important goals in my care for you.
I am comfortable with both hospital and home births, including water births. I encourage the use of alternative therapies such as chiropractic, massage, herbal remedies and homeopathics. I am also happy to consult with other health care professionals, including obstetricians, pediatricians, family physicians, nurses and social workers to ensure that you receive the best and most appropriate care available.
I have two grown children, both delivered by midwives, at home, over 25 years ago (when midwifery was still ‘illegal.’ It was partly my experiences with midwifery care that convinced me of the importance of midwifery care and choice for all women, and made me decide to become a midwife myself. I also have two wonderful (of course!) grandchildren.
Best wishes and see you soon!
